In a notable initiative to promote the health and wellness of Black and Brown men during Men’s Health Month, Pastor David Jefferson Sr., the visionary leader of Metropolitan Baptist Church, hosted the 2024 Men’s Health Expo, themed “We Are Our Brother’s Keeper.” This significant event took place on June 15th, 2024, and addressed critical health issues through a comprehensive approach focusing on the mind, body, and spirit.

The Men’s Health Expo was dedicated to proactive and preventive care for Black and Brown men. The event featured keynote speakers, fireside chats, health tips, and essential resources to improve community well-being. It was open and free to the public, making it an accessible opportunity for all.

The event boasted a distinguished lineup of speakers and partners, including:

  • Mayor Ras Baraka, Newark, New Jersey
  • Mayor Eric Adams, New York City
  • Representatives from Choose Healthy Life, Aetna, RWJ Barnabas Health, Quest Diagnostics
  • Area Doctors and Physicians, including Newark’s own Dr. Sampson Davis of the Three Doctors

A pivotal part of the event was "Metro’s Barbershop Talk: A Conversation on the Body, Mind, and Spirit," facilitated by a general practitioner. This session covered vital topics such as trauma, mental health, stress management, substance abuse, weight management, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and prostate and colon cancer. The event concluded with a live healthy cooking demonstration to teach attendees about nutritious lifestyle cooking.
